Engine Choices

Sierra leads the industry with the smallest engine, however, it generates more torque than engines twice its size.

Upgrading to the 5.3-liter V8 will cost $1,890 but brings a bit more horsepower (but less torque) and a 10-speed automatic. The SLE trim opens up the availability of the diesel engine ($845 over the V8) with its strong low-end power and greater efficiency and the SLT trim offers up the 6.2-liter V8 as an option. The Denali Ultimate and AT4 are available with the upgraded V8 or the diesel while the AT4X is solely powered by the larger V8.

Four-wheel drive is $3,300 and features an automatic setting and is standard on the AT4, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate trims. It is also required when the 6.2-liter V8 is selected.

Safety Features

Forward collision warning, a following-distance indicator, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, and automatic high beams are standard while the Safety Plus Package is offered on the Pro trim for $785 and adds rear park assist, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic braking, and rear pedestrian detection.

The SLE offers adaptive cruise control and the Sierra Safety Plus Package ($1,130) that includes a high-definition surround monitor, trailer blind-spot detection, and provisions for the integration of auxiliary-mounted trailer cameras. The AT4X includes adaptive cruise control while the Denali trims offer Super Cruise with hands-free highway operation, even with a trailer.

Connectivity

The base trim receives a seven-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity while the SLE brings a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, remote connectivity, and SiriusXM with 360L.
